JapanFunBox Original Box February 2016 Review

JapanFunBox is a fairly new monthly subscription box service (This is their fourth box so far) that sends a box full of Japanese candies and snacks all the way from Osaka, Japan. They fill up the box with candy including the latest fads and limited edition releases. Thank you JapanFunBox for sending a box to me for review.

JapanFunBox offers three different boxes to choose from with a base price of $14.99 for the mini box, $32.99 for the original box and $49.99 for the family box. They have free shipping worldwide. The box that I'll be reviewing is the original box, which includes 15-20 items and 1 DIY kit guaranteed.

When you first open your JapanFunBox, you are greeted by this nice red cloth. Under that is the information card that gives a nice description of each snacks that are included in the box. It also includes the pictures for each items.

Caramel Corn: Green Tea Milk Flavor
This is my first time trying any caramel corn products but this one was amazing. They use Uji matcha from Kyoto and condensed milk to make this. It basically taste like caramel popcorn in a corn snack shape. It has a slight bitter but sweet matcha taste. I definitely really want more of this one. I never seen this at my Asian super market so hopefully they get these soon.

Ume Pachi Chan (Sour Plum)
These are bite sized snacks that are sour plum flavor. They are pop rock candy and they indeed were sour and a bit salty at sometime. Overall it's okay but I'm not into popping candy that much.

Yuki no Yado
I'm not a big fan of rice crackers but these were pretty good. The top is sprinkled with Hokkaido cream. The sweet and salty flavors go perfectly together with the rice cracker. I think I like rice crackers that are not heavily seasoned with soy sauce.

Strawberry Gummy
These are tightly condensed gummy with the taste of strawberry fruit juice. The initial taste is very weird but towards the end, the taste of strawberries come out.

Hi-Chew Grape
Hi-Chews are one of the more well-known candy along with Pocky. This one is grape flavored and it tastes just like it. This candy isn't overly sweet, just right, and is sort of similar to starburst.

Tomato Pretz
This pretzel snack is seasoned with tomato, celery, and other vegetables. This kind of tastes like Italian pasta seasoning in a stick form. These are very addicting and since its only 150 calories, it's very healthy as well.

Dars Milk Chocolate
This chocolate is a very simple yet deliciously tasting. It taste like your usual more quality kind of chocolate and it melts nicely in the mouth.

Umaibo
The box came with two different kind, Mentaiko and Sugar Rusk flavor. The mentaiko was very delicious. It has a slight fish and spicy taste, it was a bit salty too. The sugar rusk was nice and light. It kind of tasted like honey at one point and this would go well with tea.

Pizza Potato
These chips were quite delicious and are covered with bits and pieces of cheese. From my limited Japanese, cheddar and emmental cheese were used in this chips. If I could find this chips in the U.S., I'll definitely buy it.

Shimada no Ramune
Ramune is a popular Japanese soft drink that has a marble sealing the bottle. This taste like bubblegum and lemon-lime and it's similar to sweet tarts. They are powdery and dissolves in your mouth quite quickly.

KitKat Sweet Potato Flavor
These KitKat are sweet potato flavored and are supposed to be baked in the oven. I tried one KitKat without baking it and it is rich in flavor, maybe a little too much. I tried cooking the other piece but it melted a bit. It's was still delicious.

Alfort
This treat is a delicious biscuit that is partially cover in quality chocolate. It's not overly sweet and will go great with tea or just as a snack on its own. I'll definitely buy more of this if I find it.

Fun Cake Store DIY Kit
In this DIY kit, you get to make strawberry vanilla flavored ice cream, cake and tart. It wasn't to hard to make. If you want to see the result, go check my Instagram, Sakura_Harano.

Kaki no Tane Wasabi Flavor
These snacks are a mixture of small crescent-shaped fragments of senbei (which are wasabi flavored), and peanuts. Even though I previously said that I'm not a rice cracker fan, these snacks are delicious. It's nice and light and the wasabi ties the snack together.

Gaburi Chow Deep Sea Flavor
I don't know how deep sea is supposed to taste since I've only seen that in beauty products but it kind of tastes like ramune. It was both citrus flavored and bubblegum flavored. It dissolves in your mouth like starbursts.

Sonomanma Peach
These are peach flavored soft gum balls with a peach fruit paste center. There's a catch, one of them are super sour while the rest are sweet. Lucky for me I got the sweet one but I'm not sure for next time. They are nice and juicy.

Yakiniku-san Taro and Mayo Tara
The yakiniku flavor at first tasted what instant ramen tastes raw but then it tasted like those dried fish bits. I enjoyed it, it was pretty good. With the mayo one, you had to pour mayo on the thin stick. It didn't have too much flavor other than the slight mayonnaise taste.

Everything in this box tasted delicious, my favorite was definitely the caramel corn snack. Surprisingly, I also liked the pizza flavored chips, it wasn't weird tasting. Overall, all the snacks in this box were fun to taste and review. Even though this subscription service is somewhat new, they definitely are one of the best so far and have great costumer service. Plus, they have a super cute mascot.
